A Waldorf-Inspired
Extra-Curricular
Outdoor Education Program
for Children
in San Jose, New Mexico.

We have classes one Friday and one Saturday a month. Our Friday class meets on the second Friday of the month from June-September.  Our Saturday class meets on the fourth Saturday of the month from May-August.  Families can sign up for one or both classes, as a drop-in, or for a four month session.  We are currently enrolling for both classes.

Both classes continue for four months, once a month per class.  Families can drop in, for one class or commit to the entire four month session.

There is still time to enroll, so reach out today to find out more or to schedule a tour.

Forest school programs promote mental health and well being, increased self-confidence, enhanced physical health and coordination, improved social skills and the development of resilience and independence.

Children build empathy, cooperation and conflict-resolution skills by collaborating on projects and sharing the experience of nature

When you join our community at Flower Mesa, you are supporting a small, grassroots organization, that supports holistic outdoor education for the children of San Miguel, Mora and Santa Fe counties.  We are starting small, with two classes a month and plan to expand.  We hope you will join us for this adventure.

Our Philosophy

Our programs are based on Waldorf educational philosophy, which is lauded for its holistic approach, integrating the arts, movement, practical skills and social/emotional development.  Our program honors play, creativity and the imagination.  We respect the natural process of childhood development, and we offer a nurturing environment, imbued with reverence and mindfulness.  Our students develop resilience, confidence and strong communication skills.  Our days are filled with singing, storytelling and grounding in nature.  We honor the seasonal rhythms as well as the natural blossoming of the young child.

We are an outdoor, nature adventure program. Our classes take place outside in the stunning mesa and canyon lands of San Miguel County.  Our mission is to help children connect, center and forge strong relationships with nature, themselves and our community at Flower Mesa.

OUR WORK

We teach survival and wilderness skills, as well as bush and fieldcraft.  We model the art of being at home in nature and teach skills that help children navigate confidently in the wild and the world.

We teach social and emotional skills, and sow the seeds for listening deeply to ourselves and others. We offer a unique, positive paradigm of presence and positivity, emphasizing self-understanding through mindfulness and consciousness-based practices.

Our teachers are naturalists who have a deep understanding of childhood development.  They are trained in Waldorf education, mindfulness and meditation.
